Today, I am thankful that we all learn in different & unique ways.
A boss once gave me some worldly advice: It’s perfectly appropriate to experiment and try new things. In fact, it is also appropriate (and expected) that you will fail. However, when you do fall short, learn from your failure because the only thing that is not appropriate is to fail to gain knowledge from your mistakes. In other words, don't make the same mistake twice!
Thomas Edison put it a slight different way: ““I have not failed 10,000 times. I have succeeded in proving that those 10,000 ways will not work. When I have eliminated the ways that will not work, I will find the way that will work.”
But, here’s the awesome part of learning: There’s no single way to learn either.
On this day (Jan 5) back in 1907, an Italian physician broke from convention and started her own school in a Roman apartment building, La Casa Dei Bambini. Dr. Maria Montessori quickly realized that when given a choice, kids often gravitated to practical activities that promoted self-discipline, rather than playtime with toys. Her independent method wherein children learned at their own pace formed a foundation for acquiring knowledge through creative play, reasoning, & imagination.
Never forget there is no one right way to acquire knowledge.
